Thus we see in this brief but succinct Canto not only a glimpse of Savitri’s divine personality, the purpose and mission of her birth, but in a wider sense the purpose of our own birth in this play of Space and Time. The Master-Poet also touches briefly upon the real cause of our suffering, which is due to the limitations imposed upon our soul by a limiting Nature. This is the great bondage, the bondage of Ignorance which the soul in man must break if it must be free and strong and build beauty and truth and create perfection in and through earthly forms. This the real issue of our life, which we must confront sometime or the other. Until then we will remain mere bond slaves of nature and the inferior powers that stand behind its workings and processes. But there is a Higher Will, a greater Power, a Light Supreme that can not only liberate us but also transmute our very nature into its divine equivalent. This is the great difficulty and the challenge of human life which we are here to solve. To those who so aspire there is the Help of Savitri, the Divine Mother’s embodiment. She leads and opens the doors we need to enter with faith and a sincere aspiration. She builds the bridge we have to walk upon with courage and confidence.
The Buddha has said that there is a greater joy in overcoming a desire than in satisfying it.
